LinuxWorld SF - Day 2: Post 5 (video talking the talk)
Tuesday, August 15th, 2006Here’s a decent video of Johnathan and Louis talking with Joomla developers on Day 2 of the LinuxWorld SF conference.

More photos from the Joomla showing at LinuxWorld SF can found in the PICnet Gallery.
Slick presentation dudes.
It’s nearing the end of day here, and amazingly, we’re all still standing. Johan has sneaked out of the booth, likely trying to take a nap somewhere to relieve his voice, and Louis keeps on trucking with myself, Casey, and Johnathan.
Great groups have been coming up to us, lots of “you guys rock”, and “you saved my so many hours of work”. good words to hear.
Cmdr Taco himself from Slashdot was hosting a Q/A near us, throwing black Slashdot t-shirts, and chilling on the beanbags. The ubuntu gang is talking some good game across the aisle from us. SugarForge has a slick booth with a nice 36″ screen (are they really a dot-org?). Eclipse is our good neighbor, getting the hardcore tech heads, while others like the Free Software Foundation and Creative Commons are part of the 25 or so orgs in our dot Org pavillion.
Just hoping to be able to talk tonight…
To continue to feed your Joomla at LinuxWorld SF hunger, the video!
Alright, we’re fully online with a Web cam now for all your Joomla LinuxWorld fun.

Please make sure to comment about our slick style!
Tuesday - 8:30AM
And we’re live from LinuxWorld SF 2006! I should have our Webcam up and running, and will point you all to it here. Meanwhile, I’ll keep blogging away. Made some new friends from the Free Software Foundation (hey Chris, I gave them a DIA pen), and getting cosy with our new neighbor The Eclipse Foundation.
We’ve got six screens running here, and it should be a full-on demo fest, showing some cool insider views of Joomla 1.5 beta. Later, we’ll be at the Non-Profit Technology Center down the street for Joomla Tuesday from noon - 1pm.
Should be a busy day, with photos pouring in throughout the day.
As LinuxWorld San Francisco gets ready to take off, the Joomla team and I spent the day fighting for good booth space, popping up a wifi spot, grabbing some drinks in Pacific Heights, and generally getting ready for the mayhem to begin.
Our first Joomla Tuesday on the west coast went great today, with a terrific turn-out, and lots of help from our friends at Aspiration Tech and Radical Designs. Meanwhile, the mean streets of San Francisco didn’t make it too easy to park a mid-sized car. After leaving Tahoe at 4am to get down to the City, I was hoping for that parking spot found in the first 5 minutes of looking. Nice try. I think I’ll take MUNI to the next SF Joomla Tuesday.
It’s always nice having a good diversity of individuals attending Joomla Tuesday, including end-users, consultants, and developers, and today’s session in SF was no exception. This variety provides us great questions to answer, and good initial feedback from people of different backgrounds, all of which help us better deliver Joomla to non-profits.
Big pat on the back to David Taylor, who in a pinch was able to get us a 21 inch CRT when I realized I didn’t have a projector for my presentation!
Just when you thought Joomla Tuesday could be contained to the Beltway.
Tomorrow, August 8, PICnet will be hosting two Joomla Tuesdays, one in San Francisco, and one in DC. It will be tough with the concorde no longer in service, but we’ll find a way to make both.
Joomla Tuesdays have been a great way for non-profit organizations and advocacy groups to get to know the Joomla content management system a little better. In each Joomla Tuesday presentation, we overview:
Future Joomla Tuesdays will be focusing on more narrowly-targeted areas, like:
For this week’s session, we give many thanks to Aspiration and their new Non-Profit Technology Center in San Francisco.
Well, after working with a variety of different events components for Joomla, we’ve finally realized that the non-profit community needed something a little more specific for its needs, and will soon be releasing our Non-Profit Soapbox Events component into the Soapbox family.
This has been a labour of love for Chris here, who’s been busily coding away to meet our continuous tweaks and edits. However, the end result is something I think we’ll all be very proud to provide our community. Our component will include (I can’t possibly list them all):
Core to all of this is a very easy, and intuitive way for people to post and share events. And this is just version 1. Version 2 will be even more compelling.
We’re looking forward to including this in the Soapbox family very soon!
