Debian have always been succesful organising bug squashing parties. The principle is that a group of people get together for a weekend and attempt to "squash" as many bugs as they can from the list.

By combining the bug squashing with a party over the same weekend it serves the dual purpose of becoming a social networking event as well.

Its also often combined with a simultaneous IRC squash so that those limited by geography can still contribute.

I fixed an issue from the tracker this week. It felt great. I really encourage anyone with a little time to go take a look and see if there is something you could help with. In my case, it was just converting some files to utf-8, and I an see that there are some other issues in there that are also mainly drudge work and others that are nice challenges for someone.

So, I'd really encourage people to roll up their sleeves, and take a look or also come to the forums and help out there.
