Innovations

In the PICnet Labs, we show off the innovations that our developers, designers, and yes, sometimes even our management, create for our community.  Just as one would expect, some of the most interesting developments come from scratching our own itches, fixing problems that we deal with every day.  We welcome you to peek into our laboratory!

J!Basecamp

basecamp_logoWe PICnetters love Basecamp for project management.  It's definitely not a Microsoft Project, but it does the trick, especially for our Web development clients that simply need an easy interface to communicating with us outside of email.

What we're starting to find, however, is that we need the ability to do some things in Basecamp that "out of the box", Basecamp simply doesn't do.  One of those things is simple time tracking.  When we work with support retainer clients, we need a fast and efficient way to be able to track what we did, who we did it for, and how long it took.  Sometimes this is a little laborious in Basecamp's time tracking interface, so we're developing a Basecamp - Joomla integration, that using Basecamp's API, allows us to customize our interface with Basecamp.

Look forward to a Joomla component release of this in mid-2007.

J!ConstantContact

This module makes it easy for clients of Constant Contact to easily create a module to allow individuals to sign-up for their email lists directly from within their Joomla sites.  Completely configurable, this module gives administrators the ability to show any fields from Constant Contact in their module.  Additionally, it employs AJAX, to allow the registration to the email list to occur in both a visually pleasing and unobtrusive manner.

J!DIA

With so many of our clients working with the popular Democracy in Action it was important to us to make data from DIA easily accessible via Joomla.  We've developed J!DIA to do just that.  J!DIA allows organizations to connect to DIA via Joomla to allow for:

  • New registrations placed in both Joomla and DIA
  • Profile editing of data stored in DIA by individual supporters via Joomla
  • Member directory of data stored in DIA

At this time, the J!DIA component is not available; however, when we release it, it will be GPL'd for others to develop their own code and changes as well.

J!Salesforce

jsf_logoJ!Salesforce is the first of its kind connector between Joomla and Salesforce.com.  This component allows Joomla administrators the ability to connect directly to their Salesforce.com data from within Joomla, opening the doors for functionalities such as:

  • Allowing registrations to Joomla and Salesforce.com at the same time
  • Providing access to a Salesforce.com contact record via Joomla
  • Searchable directory withing Joomla of Salesforce.com contacts

J!Odeo Component

The J!Odeo component gives Joomla administrators the ability to easily place a module in their site that pulls a customized player from Odeo.  Using the module, once the administrator selects an Odeo stream to play, the Flash module can be placed on any page for easy access to a podcast stream.  Best of all, this is done without taking bandwidth or disk space from your servers, since all the data is stored on Odeo's servers.
